Ultimate Safety Eye Tutorial - HUGE! by BeeZee-Art Ultimate Safety Eye Tutorial - HUGE! by BeeZee-Art

Alright, this picture is HUGE! You'll want to full view it or download it or something.

It contains everything I could think of about safety eyes. And when I finally saved it I kept thinking more stupid, tiny things I could have added. And I didn't even get into safety noses, though they are largely the same.

What is a safety eye?
Types of safety eyes (Pictures of a small variety of them)
How do you put a safety eye in? (Includes photo instructions)
How do you remove a safety eye?
Help, they are lopsided?!
How do I make eyelids?
How can I make custom colors? (includes ways to get custom shapes)
What else? (Other uses for them)
Okay where do I get these things? (Stores/Reviews)
End - Including some pretty pictures of more safety eyes.

Very cool, you may also want to check out at the hardware store in the fastener isle there are similar fasteners in metal

But I was wondering could eyes be formed on a bolt and use lock washer a safety nut with locktight glue?

You could probably do that, too. You'd have to be sure the material wont rust and there are no edges sharp enough to cut the fabric. It would probably be super secure.

Wow this is weird, you released this tutorial the day I randomly decided to buy some safety eyes and give them a go on the fox plushie I am making xD Mine came out great and it was very handy reading through this too. Thanks!

Awesome guide. Some lovely tips that should be useful in future.

As for suppliers of eyes, got a couple more worth mentioning:
Glass Eyes Online - US based, but pretty good at international shipping (I bought a plastic eye insertion tool from them, to deal with some eyes from China that were particularly difficult to insert), and have a magnificent selection of sizes and colours. I'm particularly drawn to their sparkle and iridescent eyes, which is what I'll be buying when I need to stock up on eyes again. They offer bulk discounts too.
Mohair Bear Making Supplies - UK based, decent selection (in particular their Bronze Pearl coloured eyes are beautiful). Most of my current stock came from this supplier. Very quick and reliable for UK folks. I also buy gloriously soft faux fur and polypellets from here.
